Term 4 2019
We’ve welcomed everyone back to the new term and at the same time wondered how quickly 2019 has zoomed along.
This term has the added excitement around swimming for our Prep to Year 5 students and surf awareness at Moolooaba Surf Club for our Year 6 students. Notes are currently going home and parents are urged to check their child’ bag if they haven’t been sighted as yet.
We are also beginning to plan for the 2020 and if your child/children (aside from Year 6 students) are moving to a new school for 2020 could you please advise your child’s teacher or the office ASAP. This information then assists us with planning for our 2020 class structures and staffing of the classes.
Mr Jared Spurr will be transferring as a permanent teacher to Mornington Island SS at the end of the year and we shall certainly miss his flexibility, being on the basketball courts and sharing his love of music along with his class teaching next year.
Prep to Year 5 Swimming
Swimming lessons will be held at Cotton Tree Swimming Pool, under the direction of the Pool swimming staff, across Week 9 of the Term.
Notes are currently being sent home with your child, with further information, and the invoice is being forwarded by email to parents.
Please return the permission notes and payment to the Office ASAP.
Year 6 Surf Awareness
The Surf Awareness programme is being held at Mooloolaba Surf Club on December 9, 10 and 12 under the direction of Mooloolaba Surf Club lifesavers.
Notes are currently being sent home with your child, with further information, and the invoice is being forwarded by email to parents.
Please return the permission notes and payment to the Office ASAP.
School Administration Landscaping Project
Many thanks to Chappy Sam and the volunteers from Lifepointe Church, who joined Mr Cullen and I last Saturday morning, to complete a landscaping project outside the Administration building. The plants were generously donated and after a few hours of work the garden now has over 110+ new plants and mulch has topped up all the garden beds around the Year 5 and Year 6 forecourt.
Also have you seen the Year 5/6 garden work opposite the bike racks? The crops keep growing and growing and Mr Leis already has a new project in mind for 2020 that could really take off!
Ongoing School Improvements
Recently we were notified of two major school projects that shall be completed across the term.
The School Hall shall receive a new flooring replacement and the Junior Boys toilets shall receive a new access and internal modifications and this work is scheduled to start in a couple of weeks.
Recycling Trial
Mrs Pool and Mrs Bellamy are looking at some recycling initiatives with students putting their finished popper drink containers into collection bags. These are then taken to the recycling station to be added to the community recycling programme.
With a couple of recycling options around for schools we’d like to run a bit of a trial across the rest of Term 4 that parents may like to add to.
Each Monday and Tuesday morning could you please send in with your child any finished at home recyclable soft drink cans, soft drink bottles, sports drinks/iced teas and water bottles and place them in a recycling container in the forecourt area before school?
This will assist us in reflecting with the P&C to which way we go in 2020
Halloween Disco Prep to Year 4
Thursday October 31 in the School Music Room from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. $5 per student.
All Maroochydore SS students from Prep to Year 4 are invited to our yearly Halloween Disco.
Come dressed in your best Halloween costume or best dancing outfit and as you leave at 5pm grab a sausage and a drink to recharge with.
2020 Prep Information Sessions
Have you a Prep aged student, or your neighbour, starting in 2020?
Have you completed the required enrolment paperwork and left it at the Office? If you haven’t now is the time to do this as we are about to roll out the 2020 Prep Orientation programme.
We are ready to send out our welcome emails with further details and don’t want our school community to miss out!
For full details please contact the School Office so that we can email you.
Pupil Free Day
Please note that Monday October 21 is a Pupil Free Day.
Maroochydore State School teachers and teacher aides shall be attending a Professional Development Day with a number of other local school staff.
P&C Christmas Raffle
Each year, the P&C hold a Christmas raffle to raise money for the school. This year we are raising money for a new playground near the Mango Tree.
There are some great prizes lined up for the raffle. One of the raffle prizes will be a Christmas hamper.
We are asking you for a non-perishable donation to go towards the Christmas hamper prize.
We are grateful for any non-perishable donation within its used-by date. For example:
- dry goods like pasta
- jars or bottles of sauces
- tinned goods
- tea, coffee or other non-perishable drinks
- snacks, chocolates, muesli bars
- laundry powder, dishwashing liquid, soap, bandaids.
Donations can be dropped off at the school office.
The raffle will be drawn on November 25th of November. Tickets for the raffle will be coming home in the next few weeks.
Thank you for helping the P&C raise funds for the new playground.
Contact Details – Do we have your most up to date contact details?
There are times when we may need to contact parents and carers. Do we have your most up to date contact details? If not, please contact the school on 5475 1555 so we can update our records. These details include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details. Please remember to contact the school if any of these details change.
Pikki Street Building Construction
Shortly, work will commence on the vacant block of land next door to the school in Pikki Street. Around safety for students, parents and staff, the gate access and access road for the teacher’s carpark will be closed off during the construction period.
Students and parents will be asked to access the school via the access pathway into the Prep and ECDP and to follow the path up to the primary school building areas. The reverse procedure will occur in the afternoon with students and parents exiting the school at the Prep and ECDP access gate.
The mango tree playgrounds will be closed, as will the one on the oval, with safety for all in mind around the construction period.

Student Absence
Parents, can you please contact the school (54751555) immediately if your child is absent?
This will reduce the number of text messages we then send out and have to chase up when parents do not reply. Thank you for your assistance with this routine.
