Queensland Ready Reading
Maroochydore State School is lucky enough to have this training happening here on Monday 9/09/19 from 8:45 – 1:00. If you would like to join in, please register on the link below or call the school office.
The Ready Reading program invites parents and community members to make a difference in their local community by volunteering in schools to support children’s reading.
Reading is a powerful tool to help children grow their vocabulary, language skills and imagination. It helps them to develop life-long skills that will support their future growth and learning.
The Department of Education’s Reading Centre and Volunteering Queensland are working together to help improve literacy for children in Queensland by training up to 3000 volunteers to share their knowledge and time to foster a love of reading.
Register your interest to become a Ready Reading volunteer.
Maroochydore News
Episode 6 of Maroochy News has just been published to our Facebook page. All our classes love to watch this news weekly and we are sure you are enjoying it too. Each week the Year 6 team from the 5/6 Ninjas make little improvements. In case you haven’t seen it, here is a link to Ep 6.

Creative Challenges
While Mr Maish has been away, Mrs Pool and Mr Leis have kept the creative challenges going. Students are given a squiggle as a starting point and they then create an image using iPads, paper and pencils, or other mediums. Teachers each choose five students to share their creations with admin and have them displayed around the school. What might you do with this one?
Road Safety Around the School
Please be very careful when driving near the school.
School Zones have a speed limit of 40km between 7 & 9 in the morning, and 2 & 4 in the afternoon on school days.
Yellow lines mean no stopping at all, not even to drop off or pick up a passenger. Stopping on these yellow lines puts the safety of our children at risk.
There is a handy drop of and pick up zone in Primary School Court. In these spaces, cars can stop to let passengers in or out of the car, while the driver stays in the car. There are many timed car parking bays around the school for those who need to park and get out of the car. Just check the signs for durations to avoid a parking ticket.
Some parents have noticed a number of cars doing U-turns near the lights in Primary School Court and notified both the school and the police. This is very unsafe and we are sure it is not being done by members of our school community. The demolition and new construction at the cul-de-sac end of Primary School Court has increased congestion, so please allow a few extra minutes if you use this entrance.
The School Road entrance is now clear of all construction and provides a light to turn both left and right.
Our Pikki St top entrance is still closed and everyone is asked to use the gate near the Prep and ECDP buildings. For more information on this, please see the article below. Please note that the yellow line in front of the top gate indicates that cars cannot stop here. Please remind your children to walk the few extra steps to the open gate rather than jump the fence.
MSHS Drama Performance for P-2
Soon, our Prep to Yr2 students will be treated to a drama performance by Maroochydore State High School Encore Class. These high schoolers interviewed our students about their interests, created plays and will now perform them for us. The high school will provide a bus for transport.
Year 1 Father’s Day BBQ Breakfast
Thanks to Chappy Sam and her helpers! This was a fantastic morning. Children and their dads enjoyed a bacon and egg sandwich and some time together. They contributed to our poster of the hands that guide us and lift us up which you can see the start of below.

Father’s Day gift stall
Thanks to our P&C volunteers for running our Father’s Day stall. The students had some tricky decisions to make when choosing what to buy. We hope all the dads and special adults liked their gifts.
Year 1 and Year 2 Zoo Excursion
Year 1 and 2 students and had a fantastic time at Wildlife HQ at the Big Pineapple. Students’ behaviour was so perfect that we got a number of comments about how impressed staff and other visitors to the zoo were with them.
NAPLAN results
Year 3 and 5 students have taken home their NAPLAN reports. If you have an questions around these, please contact your classroom teacher.
Term 4 – Looking Ahead - Swimming
In late Term 4 Prep to Year 5 students will undertake swimming sessions at Cotton Tree Pool and our Year 6 students will head to Mooloolaba Beach for Surf Awareness sessions.
The details are being confirmed and booked now and a note shall be sent home shortly with all details and costings.
Contact Details – Do we have your most up to date contact details?
There are times when we may need to contact parents and carers. Do we have your most up to date contact details? If not, please contact the school on 5475 1555 so we can update our records. These details include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details. Please remember to contact the school if any of these details change.
Staffing News
Mr Maish is on leave across week 6, 7 and 8 of this term. Mr Leis will join Mrs Pool in the office during this time.
Bullying No Way
Maroochydore State School is participating in the annual Bullying, No Way programme this year.
We continually remind our students to speak nicely and respectfully at all times as we know that name calling and teasing is not positive or helpful in promoting a happy learning environment.
From time to time some children have disagreements with other children in the playground. Teachers are very present in the playground and can act immediately to assist students and guide them to a positive and supported outcome. Class teachers can then also assist by doing check-ins with both the student and their parents in an ongoing approach.
Teachers, Mr Maish and Mrs Pool spend a lot of time listening to all sides of an incident, being reflective with students and then supporting all students in aiming to be safe, confident and reflective.
Pikki Street Building Construction
Shortly, work will commence on the vacant block of land next door to the school in Pikki Street. Around safety for students, parents and staff, the gate access and access road for the teacher’s carpark will be closed off during the construction period.
Students and parents will be asked to access the school via the access pathway into the Prep and ECDP and to follow the path up to the primary school building areas. The reverse procedure will occur in the afternoon with students and parents exiting the school at the Prep and ECDP access gate.
The mango tree playgrounds will be closed, as will the one on the oval, with safety for all in mind around the construction period.

Student Absence
Parents, can you please contact the school (54751555) immediately if your child is absent?
This will reduce the number of text messages we then send out and have to chase up when parents do not reply. Thank you for your assistance with this routine.
