Instrumental School Band
Yesterday our Instrumental Band played three songs in the Eisteddfod at MFAC.
Well done to all of our students for their magnificent effort and time spent in rehearsals.
I’ve just seen the adjudicators comments, “nice rhythmical start, a great sound from bass clarinets, well done to the trombone player and to Maroochydore SS, keep working on smooth air and playing together across the band.”
Congratulations to India, Billy, Jack, Theresa, Tina, Kyran, Eddie, Kenzy, Hugh, Artin, Rowan, Samuel, Makayla, Kimberley, Jacinta, Talia, Elijah, Lincoln, Jonas, Mia, Tayla, Isabelle, Claire, Miley and Malcolm.
Thank you Mr Buckley for getting our band to this exciting level and Mr Spurr for supporting the students today.
All the best Elle!
On Thursday and Friday week Elle will compete in the 10-12Track & Field Championship at QSAC in Brisbane. Elle will compete in the Multi-Event (100m, Long Jump, Shot Put and 800m) over the two days and we all wish her well.
Well done also to Elle for her commitment to training . At Parade on Monday Elle told us she does 5 sessions per week with each session being some 90 minutes long.
Vinnies Sleepout Maroochydore Beach
This Thursday Mrs Pool and I shall join other local business leaders and sleep out on the beach to raise funds and support those who find themselves homeless.
If you would like to add a few extra dollars please click on the link, and your donation will be added to our tally.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Free Dress Day - Friday
We are holding a second fundraiser this Friday with the funds going to the 2019 Vinnies Community Sleepout Sunshine Coast.
All students are invited to wear appropriate clothes for the theme – either, dressing as your favourite hero or heroine Or for your planned job when you leave school.
Year 5/6 AL
Have had a busy few weeks with the garden over haul and the completing of a second edition of the Maroochy News video. This was very well received by students and staff across the school and Mrs Pool and I were again delighted with the skill of all those involved and the humour being shown by Henry and Bianca as the on screen anchors.
Book Week – Reading is my super power!
17th – 23rd August
And as Dr Suess said;
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
Father’s Day BBQ Breakfast
Thursday August 29. For all students to bring along their dad and enjoy a bacon and egg sandwich together.
It’s on again – our Chappy Sam Father’s Day BBQ breakfast from 7:45 – 8:20 in the school forecourt area.
To assist with catering please come in to the Office and sign on for the BBQ.
Student Absence
Parents, can you please contact the school (54751555) immediately if your child is absent?
This will reduce the number of text messages we then send out and have to chase up when parents do not reply. Thank you for your assistance with this routine.
Term 4 – Looking Ahead - Swimming
In late Term 4 prep to Year 5 students will undertake swimming sessions at Cotton Tree Pool and our Year 6 students will head to Mooloolaba Beach for Surf Awareness sessions.
The details are being confirmed and booked now and a note shall be sent home shortly with all details and costings.
School Opinion Survey
This week the 2019 School Opinion Survey will be sent home. We urge all parents to reflectively complete the survey online promptly. Please make contact with the office if you require access to a computer in the Library to complete the survey.
In anticipation, we thank you for your support and completion of the survey.
The data is used by staff to guide our priorities and actions to support our school teaching and learning plans.
Contact Details – Do we have your most up to date contact details?
There are times when we may need to contact parents and carers. Do we have your most up to date contact details? If not, please contact the school on 5475 1555 so we can update our records. These details include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details. Please remember to contact the school if any of these details change.
Staffing News
Mr Maish will be attending the 10-12 T&F State Championships in Brisbane in week 5 and then taking leave across week 6, 7 and 8 of this term. Mr Leis will join Mrs Pool in the Office during this time.
Miss Clelland is returning from her time in England and she will fulfil a number of roles across the remainder of the year.
Bullying No Way
Maroochydore State School is participating in the annual Bullying, No Way programme this year.
We continually remind our students to speak nicely and respectfully at all times as we know that name calling and teasing is not positive or helpful in promoting a happy learning environment.
From time to time some children have disagreements with other children in the playground. Teachers are very present in the playground and can act immediately to assist students and guide them to a positive and supported outcome. Class teachers can then also assist by doing check ins with both the student and their parents in an ongoing approach.
Teachers, Mrs Pool and I spend a lot of time listening to all sides of an incident, being reflective with students and then supporting all students in aiming to be safe, confident and reflective.
Pikki Street Building Construction
Shortly, work will commence on the vacant block of land next door to the school in Pikki Street. Around safety for students, parents and staff, the gate access and access road for the teacher’s carpark will be closed off during the construction period.
Students and parents will be asked to access the school via the access pathway into the Prep and ECDP and to follow the path up to the primary school building areas. The reverse procedure will occur in the afternoon with students and parents exiting the school at the Prep and ECDP access gate.
The mango tree playgrounds will be closed, as will the one on the oval, with safety for all in mind around the construction period.
