July School Holidays

We hope our school families have a safe and wonderful July holiday break and we look forward to your return on Monday July 15 ready for a new start to learning for Semester two.

The holiday break can be a time to do some new exploring of the local district, a time to read new books, to find new parks to play in and just to learn new things. Whizz down to the Science Centre and Museum at South Bank and spend a day exploring the new and the old.

We also hope it is a time to recharge the batteries and leave the winter aches and pains behind!

Explore Writing Competition

Wow and fabulous work to Scoute (Yr6), Jessica (Yr6) and Nate (Yr6) for being our writing award winners in the EXPLORE budding writer’s competition. A big thank you to Mrs Hill and Miss Burnett for offering advice and a little bit of their extra time.

Lockdown Practice

As part of our regular routine we shall conduct a lockdown practice before the end of the term. Teachers shall talk to the students beforehand and also do a reflection after the practice is complete.

Early Childhood Development Programs (ECDPs)

ECDP funding extended beyond 2020

Funding for ECDPs will continue beyond 2020. The Queensland Government announced the continued funding in the State Budget on 11 June 2019. Our school has also received an ECDP Great Start Grant. The grant provides an opportunity for us to work collaboratively with our parents, National Disability Insurance Scheme Early Childhood Early Intervention (NDIS ECEI) providers, kindy services and local schools to build on good practice so that children attending our ECDP are able to make the best possible transition to school.

Great news! The ECDP funding will continue beyond 2020. The funding was announced in the State Budget on 11 June 2019.

Woolworth’s Sticker Collection

Sincere thank you to all parents/students who have regularly filled the Woolworth’s box in the Office. We are now in the last days of the promotion and please hand them in before leaving on Friday morning so that our P&C can send the stickers off before the end of the day and the holidays begin.

#everyonecancreate

Across the semester our students have been challenged to create on their iPads. Each fortnight Mrs Pool and I see an amazing range of creativity and skill that the students have then willingly shared with each other. In Year 4 last week Isabelle quickly, confidently and creatively came up with a number of pieces of work that has left staff also inspired. Well done Isabelle.

Fun Run June 27

At Monday’s P&C meeting we have decided to postpone the Fun Run until the last week of school (Sept 19) in Term 3. The earth works on the ovals across the road have not been completed due to the wet weather and in the interests of the safety of all, and to allow us full access to our course we have delayed the event until September.

Semester Reports

Tomorrow your child’s semester report shall be emailed to you. If you have updated your email contact lately and haven't advised us please ring the Office ASAP so there is no delay in getting your child's report to you.

Again, all parents are encouraged to make time early next term to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss not only the report but what goals are being set for improvement and learning across Semester Two.

Free Dress Day – Friday

GOLD COIN donation

Funds donated to Give me Five for Kids.

All students are invited to come with crazy hair, and or, crazy socks.

Students are also to wear covered footwear and appropriate clothing for school learning.

Staffing News

Mrs Pool is on a week’s leave and we wish her a speedy recovery. Mr Leis is assisting in the Office with Mr Peter Keim taking Year 5/6AL.

Mid way through next term Miss Clelland is returning from her time in England and she will fulfil a number of roles across the remainder of the year.

Bullying No Way

Maroochydore State School is participating in the annual Bullying, No Way programme this year.

We continually remind our students to speak nicely and respectfully at all times as we know that name calling and teasing is not positive or helpful in promoting a happy learning environment.

From time to time some children have disagreements with other children in the playground. Teachers are very present in the playground and can act immediately to assist students and guide them to a positive and supported outcome. Class teachers can then also assist by doing check ins with both the student and their parents in an ongoing approach.

Teachers, Mrs Pool and I spend a lot of time listening to all sides of an incident, being reflective with students and then supporting all students in aiming to be safe, confident and reflective.

Pikki Street Building Construction

Shortly, work will commence on the vacant block of land next door to the school in Pikki Street. Around safety for students, parents and staff, the gate access and access road for the teacher’s carpark will be closed off during the construction period.

Students and parents will be asked to access the school via the access pathway into the Prep and ECDP and to follow the path up to the primary school building areas. The reverse procedure will occur in the afternoon with students and parents exiting the school at the Prep and ECDP access gate.

The mango tree playgrounds will be closed, as will the one on the oval, with safety for all in mind around the construction period.

Uniform Shop

Please note the changed operating times.

Monday c. 8:00am – c. 8:20am

School Learning Times

Classrooms open at 8:20am every school day. This allows time for students to unpack their bags, come in and get their learning space organised.

This ensures all students are organised and ready to start learning at 8:30am every school day.

Please note after 8:45am, if students and parents are running a little bit late you BOTH must come to the Office for a late slip as ONLY the parent is required to give a reason for the lateness.

Fun fact 2: The Saturn V Moon rocket went from paper design to flight in just 6 years.
Fun fact 3: The Saturn V Moon rocket had 13 (mostly) successful missions. It flew 13 times, including 10 times with people on board.
