Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all of our students who participated so actively in their races, jumps events, ball games and relays across both the Prep to Year 2 and Year 3 to Year 6 athletics days.
We were delighted with their efforts and the positive, supportive nature they displayed for their friends. It was wonderful to see our Prep to Year 2 students just enjoying the opportunity to participate and have a few goes in a number of events. Well done to our Prep to Year 2 students.
In the Senior School – again well done to all students across Year 3 to Year 6 for your efforts and keenness to participate. To those students in the SWANS House a big congratulations and for winning the House Shield.
Three cheers to our senior school age champions:
8 years - Alexis-Jayde and
Lachlan
9 years – Chloe and Peter
10 years – Samantha and Zech
11 years – Chloe and Riley
12 years – Elle and Zandor
13 years – Mak
A number of students have met the Nambour District qualification standards and will compete on Thursday June 6 at the University of Sunshine Coast track. We wish these students all the best for their events.
Regional Cross Country
Elle O (Year 6) competed at Buderim on Tuesday in the Regional Cross Country event. Elle gained a 30th position and made comment of how many runners there were and that the course was a bit tricky and muddy in many places. Well done Elle on your efforts to get this far.
Reader’s Cup
On Wednesday Mr Spurr took our Reader’s Cup team to Immamuel College. In preparation our students were reading 5 books and wow, what an effort.
The students were then asked 5 rounds of questions in a very tense affair and your results were very encouraging. It is nice to see our students also have another opportunity to represent the school and help share their passion for reading with other students from other schools.
Mr Spurr was very enthusiastic on his return about your engagement and overall supportive nature for each other.
Congratulations to Scoute, Henry, Miley and K.
Under 8’s Morning
What a busy morning for our Under 8’s as they moved through the school and visited a huge number of activities.
The animal farm, bubble blowing, boomerangs, tree weaving, fruit station, face painting, biscuit icing, disco, threading and beading, bracelet making, caterpillars, photo booth, sensory station, mural and novelty races and that was before they even saw the Ambulance, Police car and the noisy big red fire engine. We even had a visit from WIN news.
Thank you to all parents who visited and supported the morning and made such positive comments to staff.
Bullying No Way
Maroochydore State School is participating in the annual Bullying, No Way programme this year.
We continually remind our students to speak nicely and respectfully at all times as we know that name calling and teasing is not positive or helpful in promoting a happy learning environment.
From time to time some children have disagreements with other children in the playground. Teachers are very present in the playground and can act immediately to assist students and guide them to a positive and supported outcome. Class teachers can then also assist by doing check ins with both the student and their parents in an ongoing approach.
Teachers, Mrs Pool and I spend a lot of time listening to all sides of an incident, being reflective with students and then supporting all students in aiming to be safe, confident and reflective.
Pikki Street Building Construction
Shortly, work will commence on the vacant block of land next door to the school in Pikki Street. Around safety for students, parents and staff, the gate access and access road for the teacher’s carpark will be closed off during the construction period.
Students and parents will be asked to access the school via the access pathway into the Prep and ECDP and to follow the path up to the primary school building areas. The reverse procedure will occur in the afternoon with students and parents exiting the school at the Prep and ECDP access gate.
The mango tree playgrounds will be closed, as will the one on the oval, with safety for all in mind around the construction period.
Uniform Shop
Please note the changed operating times.

Maroochydore State High School
Parents of Year 6 students are asked to regularly check the dates at the end of this newsletter for key dates specifically for Year 6 students as we begin the transition programme with Maroochydore State High School.
You will be invited to parent information sessions, need to complete enrolment forms and or apply for excellence programmes and your child will attend transition days as your enrolment forms are confirmed by the high school.
School Learning Times
As it is the start of a new year it is also a good time to remind everyone about being prepared for the school learning day.
Remember classrooms at open at 8:20am at the latest every school day. This allows time for students to unpack their bags, come in and get their learning space organised.
This ensures all students are organised and ready to start learning at 8:30am every school day.
Please note after 8:45am, if students and parents are running a little bit late you BOTH must come to the Office for a late slip as ONLY the parent is required to give a reason for the lateness.
The Sky Above – Mars
Join me and be a part of history by sending your name to the red planet aboard the Mars 2020 rover. It is a fun thing to do, as it creates an interest and hopefully inspires our students to create the rockets, the rovers, the satellites of the future. My family are well used to hearing of our names whizzing around our solar system on a number of different missions. Think – the sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn (this includes the Cassini Mission which crashed into Saturn in 2017) and even on the New Horizons mission which zoomed past Ultima Thule earlier this year.

Mars – some basic facts:
Length of a year on Mars – 687 earth days.
Length of a day on Mars (Sol) – 24hrs:37mins
One way light time to the sun – 13.538562 minutes
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Every day counts
Term 1 Whole School Student Attendance Rate – 90.9%
Our whole school target is 94%
Best year level attendance: Prep and closely followed by Year 6.
Parents are reminded of the importance of sending children to school every day. Being at school every day is important, with one day absent each week quickly adding up to two months of missed lessons in a year.
Unless your child is ill, it is expected that your child will be at school learning every day of the school year.
We have 4 school rules. Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be a Learner.
