The Maroochydore Way
Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be a Learner
2017
The 2017 school year is coming to a rapid conclusion with a number of end of year activities happening at the moment. Year 6 – AussieWorld Wednesday, Thursday -> Movie Day – Son of Bigfoot, and Party Day!
It’s been another busy year for our 250+ students and school staff with many highlights around the students’ learning and development, and the positiveness around our school.
Sincere thanks to:
- our school families for your support of your child’s teacher and the Maroochydore State School across the school year
- all our school staff (teachers, teacher aides, specialist teachers, school admin, school support staff, cleaners and grounds staff and our volunteer supporters) for their ongoing commitment to the students’ engagement and learning each school day, and
- our P&C who have worked hard to promote and support the activities of the school
On behalf of all school staff, Mrs Pool and I wish our whole school community a wonderful and safe Christmas and holiday period and look forward to welcoming you and a number of new families back to the new school year on Monday January 22 2018.
M – Factor talent quest
Thank you to Mr Spurr who auditioned, encouraged and supported those students who performed on Monday afternoon at the M Factor talent quest.
The variety of the students’ talent was impressive as they performed, sung, danced, and played with great pride and enthusiasm. These two wonderful qualities sit well alongside being an active participant.
It was delightful to watch and see the ‘hidden talents’ of our students and it quickly became obvious that next year we should further highlight these talents with other opportunities to perform in front of an audience.
Three cheers to all our performers:
The School Instrumental Band, Seven Nation Army Rock Band
Singers/dancers –> Leah, Shari, Zoe, Mia, Bonnie, Indi, Katlyn, Scoute, Lilyan, Manreet, Kaleb and Zakia
Singers-> Rachel, Chloe, Allysa and Louisa
Piano player -> Yarik
Djembe drummer -> Georgia
Guitar player and singer - > Ignatio
Hula hoop -> Tayla
End of Year 6 Night
Congratulations to Mrs Sinclair and Mr Spurr and our Year 6 students for an entertaining and wonderful Tuesday evening. Around a massive late storm, the students performed dances and a song and received a certificate to recognise the end of their primary school education.
Mrs Sinclair and Mr Spurr were very proud teachers for the way all students performed.
Congratulations again to our award winners – Natasha, Annalise, Chaitanya, Lilyan, Angel, Rachel, Yaghie, Reuben, Wyatt, Anna, Allysa and Rylan.

Prep to Year 6 in 2018
Next year our school will have classes from Prep to Year 6.
We hope to welcome around 30 new Prep students into our school in the new year.
As usual, with our changing class numbers, there will be some classroom and teacher changes.
Proposed classes for 2018 shall be published outside the School Office on January 18.
Teachers this week have reflected on student friendship groupings and academic achievement to help create the proposed classes.
With the transient nature of our area please note that these are proposed classes and they may change to fit within the school allocation of staff come the first few weeks of Term 1.
With much sadness, we are saying goodbye to our contract teachers Mrs Blanch, Miss Mossman and Mr Spurr, as well as School Support teacher Mrs Sharp. Teacher Aides Miss Mandy, Mrs O, Miss Clementine are also finishing their contracts for the year. They have all inspired our students and been a wonderful and successful part of our school across 2017. To you all, a sincere thank you and I hope our paths cross again in the very near future.
Volunteer thank you – we have a large number of regular volunteers at our school. I am often amazed by the work that goes on behind the scenes in supporting our students in a variety of ways. Thank also to Mrs McFadzen for your tireless efforts in co-ordinating!
Movies
Tomorrow, we will be walking our Prep to Year 5 students to the cinema to watch The Son of Bigfoot (the activity) as part of our end of year celebration.

(A child born 01 July to 30 June 2013 is eligible to enrol in Prep for 2018)

We must sight your child’s Birth Certificate to fulfil the legal requirement of the enrolment.
School Numbers for 2018
All schools are currently planning for 2018. Any family who is thinking of leaving the school at the end of this year, could you please let us know as we too are currently in the process of organising class drafts, staffing and resources for 2018.
Likewise, if you are aware of any new families wanting to enrol their child/ren for next year, please ask them to contact the school office.
School Watch
Please call 13 17 88 if you observe any suspicious activity on our school site during out of hours times.
Unfortunately, during the holidays we had a couple of break ins and reports of a number of youths on our school site. We refer all such incidents to the Police for their investigation.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Please reinforce with your children the idea that we do not solve disagreements by being physical at any time. That we use our words, walk away or seek a teacher to assist.
- I say STOP if someone or something is upsetting me.
- I WALK away from the situation to a safe place.
- I TALK to someone I can trust.
- I CONTROL myself and keep my COOL.
- I can solve problems in a calm manner.
Resilience
In this context resilience means that students need to take responsibility for their own actions.
Regardless of what bad things we experience or others may do to us we are still responsible for how we react. It is not acceptable to justify our inappropriate behaviour as a result of someone else’s behaviour towards us.
Wearing the correct school uniform including a broad brimmed hat for play times.
School learning starts at 8:30am sharp.
There are high expectations around student work, personal achievements and behaviour.
For any student absence please call the school before 8:30am on the day of the absence. 5475 1555
Our 4 School Rules are:
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe , Be a Learner
All student mobile phones are to be taken to the School Office for safe keeping during the school day. Students collect them at the end of the school teaching and learning day at 2:30pm.
Playground Use
It is great to see students and families enjoy the wonderful facilities and playgrounds straight after school. However, I need all of the community to please support this practice in the following way.
If students are to use the playground after school, their parent must be actively supervising their child from right next to the playground.
I appreciate everyone’s support with this.
