Talent Quest
Class teachers are on the lookout for hidden performing talent!
Does your child perform, sing or dance and would they like to participate in an audition for our end of year talent quest?
Please see your class teacher in the first instance with finalists being organised by Mr Spurr and Mrs Emerson.
P&C Disco
Many thanks to our P&C executive and supporters for the special Halloween Disco and sausage sizzle on Tuesday evening. Over 110 Prep to Year 4 students turned up and had a terrific time dancing and singing with many in amazing costumes and make up.
Grandparents Day
What a wonderful visit by so many grandparents this year. After visiting their grandchild’s classroom we provided a rock, a friendship rock, to paint with their grandchild/children and this proved to be a very popular activity with creatively decorated rocks on display.
Raffle Tickets
The P&C distributed raffle tickets to all families
last week.
If you are not in a position to sell the tickets could you please return
them to the Office ASAP.
A reminder – all raffle tickets
(sold and unsold) need to be returned to the Office by November 20.
November 27 will be the draw.
Term 4 Whole School Cultural Activity
Our final whole school cultural performance, sponsored by our P&C, is a Science Show on November 23. We look forward to more amazing and dazzling science and thank our P&C for their generous funding of these activities across the year for all of our Maroochydore SS students.
Swimming – Term 4
Swimming is on in late Term 4 this year.
November 27 – Swimming Week for all students.
A reminder that all swimming money is
to be finalised by November 17.
Thank you to the huge number of families that have paid up for this very
important part of our curriculum, especially as we live so close to the
beach and a large river.
Preparing for swimming – togs, towel, bag for wet clothes, goggles if
required.

Prep Open Day
November 17: 9am – 10am
A warm welcome to the Prep students of 2018 as they visit our school on November 17 with their parents and experience a little bit of Prep!
School Numbers for 2018
All schools are currently planning for 2018. Any family who is thinking of leaving the school at the end of this year could you please let us know as we too are currently in the process of organising class drafts, staffing and resources for 2018.
Likewise, if you are aware of any new families wanting to enrol their child/ren for next year, please ask them to contact the school office.
Safety before and after school
We continue to reinforce safety messages with all students particularly with those who walk or ride a bike, scooter or skateboard to and from school. We have had a number of reports that some students are crossing Evans Street in a dangerous manner and a reminder that the traffic light crossing is to be used.
Another reminder that there is to be no riding within the school grounds.
We would encourage parents and carers to reinforce this message and to keep reminding your children to be alert and ride or walk to, from and within school carefully.
Bucket Hats
Just a reminder for all students to leave their baseball caps at home. Parents please ensure your child has a broad brimmed/bucket style hat for maximum sun safety protection when out in the playground.
Attendance at School
Term 4 of school is just as important as the rest of the school year. It is important that all students attend school every day unless they are unwell or have an appointment that can’t be made after school.
It really makes a significant difference to their learning outcomes. Being late also hinders learning as vital information such as learning goals and changes to the routine are given to the class at the beginning of each day.
We encourage all families to ensure their children are at school every day and on time. If you want your child to be successful at school then YES- EVERY DAY COUNTS!
School Watch
Please call 13 17 88 if you observe any suspicious activity on our school site during out of hours times.
Unfortunately, during the holidays we had a couple of break ins and reports of a number of youths on our school site. We refer all such incidents to the Police for their investigation
Routines and Expectations
Haven’t our wonderful Prep students done a wonderful job in speaking on Parade around the weekly behavior rule? Thank you Prep students for your enthusiasm and applying our 4 school rules into your daily learning.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Please reinforce with your children the idea that we do not solve disagreements by being physical at any time. That we use our words, walk away or seek a teacher to assist.
- I say STOP if someone or something is upsetting me.
- I WALK away from the situation to a safe place.
- I TALK to someone I can trust.
- I CONTROL myself and keep my COOL.
- I can solve problems in a calm manner.
Resilience
In this context resilience means that students need to take responsibility for their own actions.
Regardless of what bad things we experience or others may do to us we are still responsible for how we react. It is not acceptable to justify our inappropriate behaviour as a result of someone else’s behaviour towards us.
Wearing the correct school uniform including a broad brimmed hat for play times.
School learning starts at 8:30am sharp.
There are high expectations around student work, personal achievements and behaviour.
For any student absence please call the school before 8:30am on the day of the absence. 5475 1555
Our 4 School Rules are:
Be SafeBe, Respectful, Be Responsible, Be a Learner
All student mobile phones are to be taken to the School Office for safe keeping during the school day. Students collect them at the end of the school teaching and learning day at 2:30pm.
Playground Use
It is great to see students and families enjoy the wonderful facilities and playgrounds straight after school. However, I need all of the community to please support this practice in the following way.
If students are to use the playground after school, their parent must be actively supervising their child from right next to the playground.
I appreciate everyone’s support with this.
