Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be a Learner
World of Science
Scientist alert! Well done to (Yr 6) Natasha, Lilyan, Annalise, Rachael, Alyssa, Zak, Wyatt and Chaitanya, (Yr 5) Callum, Yarik and Jordan who yesterday visited Brightwater SS to share their seismograph and a parralex angle presentations as part of the World of Science finale.
The day started with a spaghetti tower challenge and a lesson with Dr Praheep about the damaging of plastics on our environment before the presentations of the student projects.
The Subway lunch was a bit of a hit!
The class teachers – Mrs Hill, Mrs Sinclair, Mr Spurr, and Mrs Pool and myself are delighted with the effort and quality of work the students showed in this project.
Bucket Hats
Just a reminder for all students to leave their baseball caps at home. Parents please ensure your child has a broad brimmed/bucket style hat for maximum sun safety protection when out in the playground.
Fun Run – Cross Country
Well done again to all our participants in yesterday’s cross country fun run.
At the start line there were eager and excited faces waiting for the whistle to go. A little while later after crossing high jump mats, crawling through a tunnel, zig zagging, leaping logs and empty creeks, over a fence and up and down woodchip hills. But first – get through the jelly pit and after staggering up the sand hill we saw wide eyes and hug smiles as the finish line loomed.
Thank you to the P&C that organised the post run ice block, a cooling way to finish off a fun activity!
Term 3 Holidays
We wish all families a safe and healthy holiday period without any further illnesses. On behalf of all staff I would like to wish all of our families a safe and happy break. I look forward to seeing you all when school resumes on Tuesday October 3.
Friday – Free Dress Day
Let’s celebrate the end of the Cassini space mission to Saturn.
Wear your best science/space attire on Friday for a free dress activity to celebrate the end of the Cassini space mission and the end of the term.
Mr Maish will be attending the Cassini Mission finale at the Deep Space Network in Canberra on Friday evening and will add posts to the school Facebook page as the mission ends.
Child Protection Week
This week is Child Protection Week and offers the opportunity for schools and the community to promote the message that all children have the right to feel safe and protected.
Child Protection Week also recognises those who work in the Child Protection Sector and acknowledges their efforts and commitment.
Nationally, NAPCAN (National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect) co-ordinates Child Protection Week. Speaking at the launch of the National Child Protection Week, Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove, encouraged all Australians to join together to keep our children safe and nurtured.
NAPCAN Deputy CEO, Leesa Waters asked that Australians start thinking aboutchild abuse as a problem that can be prevented rather than a problem to be fixed after the fact.
The NAPCAN website has a wealth of resources to recognise Child Protection Week.

Attendance Every Day Counts
Attending school every day is not an option, it is compulsory.
At Maroochydore State School – Every Day Counts!
Whether it be struggling to recover after a big weekend of sporting events or activities, taking a few extra days after a holiday or celebrating a milestone, the need for students to engage every day is important.
Routines and Expectations
Haven’t our wonderful Prep students done a wonderful job in speaking on Parade around the weekly behavior rule? Thank you Prep students for your enthusiasm and applying our 4 school rules into your daily learning.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Please reinforce with your children the idea that we do not solve disagreements by being physical at any time. That we use our words, walk away or seek a teacher to assist.
- I say STOP if someone or something is upsetting me.
- I WALK away from the situation to a safe place.
- I TALK to someone I can trust.
- I CONTROL myself and keep my COOL.
- I can solve problems in a calm manner.
Resilience
In this context resilience means that students need to take responsibility for their own actions.
Regardless of what bad things we experience or others may do to us we are still responsible for how we react. It is not acceptable to justify our inappropriate behaviour as a result of someone else’s behaviour towards us.
Wearing the correct school uniform including a broad brimmed hat for play times.
School learning starts at 8:30am sharp.
There are high expectations around student work, personal achievements and behaviour.
For any student absence please call the school before 8:30am on the day of the absence. 5475 1555
Our 4 School Rules are:
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be a Learner
All student mobile phones are to be taken to the School Office for safe keeping during the school day. Students collect them at the end of the school teaching and learning day at 2:30pm.
School Uniform
With the cooler weather beginning a reminder to all parents and students that the School Uniform Policy has support for students wearing a bottle green jumper/jacket as opposed to a variety of colour and branded jumpers/jackets. No hoodies.
Don’t forget to name your child’s jumper as they are often taken off during playtime and left lying about. Having a name greatly assists in the jumper being reunited with its owner quickly!
Playground Use
It is great to see students and families enjoy the wonderful facilities and playgrounds straight after school. However, I need all of the community to please support this practice in the following way.
If students are to use the playground after school, their parent must be actively supervising their child from right next to the playground.
I appreciate everyone’s support with this.
