It was wonderful to walk back through the school gates yesterday after an unexpected period of absence due to health! Thank you to the students and parents for the positive and welcoming words and the chats in the playground.
A sincere thank you also to Mrs Pool and all school staff for all their extra work during my absence.

Rock It Performance
The first whole school performance - Rock It - was fantastic!
Last Tuesday, Maroochy kids were Rocking along to the two Aussie Rockers, Rusty and Deano, whilst learning about various rock music styles including Heavy Metal, Country, Hip-hop and Blues. The multi-talented Aussie Kids Rock show was very energetic, engaging and educational and gave our kids an insight into what it really takes to play in a band!
The students and staff loved singing and dancing along to the songs with Rusty and Deano. Deano was the drummer who made everyone laugh with his outlandish costumes and endless drum solos while Rusty, the cool guitarist, taught the kids about looping, sound recording and shredding.
Rock-it was a fantastic show that left our students confident and buzzing with excitement at all the possibilities open to them through music!
Thank you to our P&C for supporting all of our students to attend the first of four performances across the year.
Maths Day of Excellence
Ten of our Yr6 students represented our school at the recent Mathematics Day of Excellence at Maroochydore State High School. They took part in a robotics challenge, team games solving maths problems, and even worked in a team made up of students from different schools. Mrs Nugent, who attended with them, was impressed with their ability to think quickly. We are very proud of their achievements and their wonderful behaviour on the day. You did us proud, Yaghie, Angel, Charli, Natasha, Anna, Rylan, Kieran, Benjamin, Reuben, and Zane.
Harmony Day
Harmony Day is a day when we celebrate Australia’s diversity. This year’s theme is ‘everyone belongs.’ As a school we will celebrate Harmony Day in a few ways.
On parade on Monday 20/03/2017 we will sing both versus of the Australian National Anthem. Do you know the second verse? We will also sing the Harmony Day song. Students have been practising both in music lessons and classrooms.
On Tuesday 21/03/2017 we encourage all students to come in the national dress of their or one of their parent’s or ancestor’s origin or the team colours of one of that country’s national sporting teams. Please ensure that shoulders, midriffs and feet are covered and that nothing precious or irreplaceable is worn or brought to school. Students and staff will receive a ribbon, sticker, or bookmark to mark the day.
Being Brave
This week the whole school attended a performance by Brainstorm Productions called Being Brave. This was an interactive drama about sharing our stories, showing our feelings, keeping memories alive and just living a brave and happy life.
Thank you to the P&C who help to fund these incursions so that every student can attend at no cost to families.
School Photo day
Please highlight May 5 in your calendar for the annual school photo day. The P&C will forward more information closer to the date around ordering class, individual and family photos.
Year 6 Information from MSHS
Important information for a successful transition to high school in 2018
Breakfast Club
Thursday Breakfast Club – on a Thursday with toast and a drink. Thank you for our Milo donation!
Students and families are welcome to come to the main forecourt area from 8:00am. and join in the Breakfast Club social start to the day.
Chappy Sam is here on a Tuesday and Thursday again this year. All parents and students are invited to catch up with Chappy Sam in her room or to make an appointment please ring the Office 5475 1555
School Learning Times
As it is the start of a new year it is also a good time to remind everyone about being prepared for the school learning day.
Classrooms at open at 8:20am every school day. This allows time for students to unpack their bags, come in and get their learning space organised.
This ensures all students are organised and ready to start learning at 8:30am every school day.
Please note after 8:45am, if students and parents are running a little bit late you BOTH must come to the Office for a late slip as ONLY the parent is required to give a reason for the lateness.
Playground Use
It is great to see students and families enjoy the wonderful facilities and playgrounds straight after school. However, I need all of the community to please support this practice in the following way.
If students are to use the playground after school, their parent must be actively supervising their child from right next to the playground.
I appreciate everyone’s support with this.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
Every day counts
Parents are reminded of the importance of sending children to school every day. Being at school every day is important, with one day absent each week quickly adding up to two months of missed lessons in a year.
Unless your child is ill, it is expected that your child will be at school learning every day of the school year.
More information on the importance of regular school attendance is available at the link below. The videos associated with this link highlight issues often faced by parents and dispel some myths about absences form school and are worth a look.
http://education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/index.html
By sending your child to school every day we are together developing good habits for success at primary school and beyond. When parents do not support developing a solid routine of attending school every day issues of truancy and poor work habits can emerge.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s attendance, please do not hesitate to contact the school for support.
