The 2016 school year is coming to a rapid conclusion with a number of end of year activities happening at the moment. Movie Day – SING, and Party Day!
It’s been another busy year for our 230 students and school staff with many highlights around the student’s learning and development, and the tone and setting of our school.
Sincere thanks to:
- our school families for your support of your child’s teacher and the Maroochydore State School across the school year
- all our school staff (teachers, teacher aides, specialist teachers, school admin, school support staff, cleaners and grounds staff and our volunteer supporters) for their ongoing commitment to the student’s engagement and learning each school day
- our P&C who have worked hard to promote and support the activities of the school
On behalf of all school staff, Mrs Pool and I wish our whole school community a wonderful and safe Christmas and holiday period and look forward to welcoming you and a number of new families back to the new school year on Monday January 23 2016.

End of Year 6 Night
Congratulations to Mrs Hill and our Year 6 students for an entertaining and wonderful Tuesday evening. The school band played and then all Year 6 students played the Djembe drums and performed a quality dance to Can’t Stop the Feeling.
Mrs Hill was very proud teacher for the way all students performed.

Science Show – Street Science
With huge thanks to our P&C, all students attended the Street Science show on Monday morning in the Hall.
For 45 minutes the students were dazzled and amazed by light, air and fire! There was a number of loud bangs and chemical reactions to raise curiosity and spark an interest in science.

Prep to Year 6 in 2017
Next year our school will have classes from Prep to Year 6.
We hope to welcome nearly 30 new Prep students into our school in the new year.
As usual with our changing class numbers, there will be some classroom and teacher changes.
Proposed classes for 2017 shall be published outside the School Office on January 19.
Where a year level has more students to fill one class – teachers this week have reflected on student friendship groupings and academic achievement to help create the proposed classes.
With the transient nature of our area please note that these are proposed classes and they may change to fit within the school allocation of staff.
With much sadness, we are saying goodbye to our contract teachers Mrs Blanch and Mrs McSweeny, as well as School Support teachers Mrs Blackburn and Mrs Sharp. Teacher Aides Miss Mandy, Mrs O are also finishing their contracts for the year. They have all inspired our students and been a wonderful and successful part of our school across 2016. To you all, a sincere thank you and I hope our paths cross again in the very near future.
Playgrounds after school
It is great to see students and families enjoy the wonderful facilities and playgrounds straight after school. However, I need all of the community to please support this practice in the following way. If students are to use the playground after school, their parent must be actively supervising their child from right next to the playground. I appreciate everyone’s support with this.

Every day counts
Parents are reminded of the importance of sending children to school every day. Being at school every day is important, if with one day absent each week quickly adding up to two months of missed lessons in a year.
Unless your child is ill, it is expected that your child will be at school learning every day of the school year.
More information on the importance of regular school attendance is available at the link below. The videos associated with this link highlight issues often faced by parents and dispel some myths about absences form school and are worth a look.

By sending your child to school every day we are together developing good habits for success at primary school and beyond. When parents do not support developing a solid routine of attending school every day issues of truancy and poor work habits can emerge.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s attendance, please do not hesitate to contact the school for support.
This week’s rule of the week is – Be Safe. Evans Street Upgrade – Be Safe and us the traffic lights correctly when crossing any road.
