All Year 6 parents and friends are welcome to attend the 2016 Year 6 End of Year Evening on Tuesday December 6 starting at 5pm. The night shall include student performances and the presentation of awards and special certificates.

End of Year Prep to Year 5 Movie - Year 6 Aussie World Trip

Prep to Year 5 – Cinema visit to see the pre-release movie SING.
Year 6 – visit to AussieWorld

Earlier this term we had a significantly improved attendance at swimming than in previous years. This resulted in our calculations being incorrect and after the invoices from the pool and bus company were paid we had surplus money.

At the last P&C Meeting it was agreed to refund the money to parents, for those who attended swimming, by way of reducing the cost of the upcoming end of year activities.

Thus, if your child attended swimming this year in the Prep to Year 5 levels the cost of the movie ($10) has been reduced this year to $3.50, and if your child attended swimming in Year 6 the cost of the AussieWorld trip ($37.25) has been reduced this year to $30.75

If your child did not attend swimming this year in the Prep to Year 5 levels the cost of the movie is $10.

If your child did not attend swimming this year in Year 6 the cost of the AussieWorld trip is $37.25

The ‘Prep Practice’ morning will be on January 20 for our enrolled students. A 9am start for an hour with a 10am finish time.

2017 Year Level Book Lists

Last week the 2017 Book Lists were given to students to take home. Again, this year we are using our local Swan Newsagency as the supplier and forms are asked to be returned to school by Wednesday December 7. After this day parents, will need to take the form direct to Swan Newsagency which is located in the Sunshine Plaza.

All Book List packs will be ready to collect at School in the main forecourt area on Thursday, January 19 2017 from 8am to 3pm.

Semester Two Student Reports

Student reports for Semester two will be issued via email on Wednesday December 7. Currently our teaching staff and students are focused on completing the assessment tasks that contribute to this overall picture of your child’s achievements.

2016 Departures and 2017 Enrolments

We are currently trying to accurately plan our class and staffing structure for 2017. Having the most accurate information regarding student enrolments is essential in this process.

We please ask that if you will not be returning to Maroochydore SS in 2017, can you please contact the Office ASAP. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated.

If you are planning to enrol a new student, or know friends who are, can you please contact the school office straight away to arrange enrolment.

Hour of Code

Students again this year will be involved in the Hour of Code programme. This will take place in the last week of school as our students select from over 160 activities that can be either completed unplugged (no digital device) or on any device. This will be the third time we have participated in this activity and we make up some of the 100 million students who have tried the Hour of Code.

Street Science

Thank you to our P&C who have generously paid for all students to attend our Street Science performance on Monday December 5. Prep to Year 2 will attend one show and the Year 3 to Year 6 will attend the following show.

Sing Shake Shuffle

On December 2 our Indigenous students will be attending the finale of the Sing Shake Shuffle programme at USC with Mrs Toni White. The main part of the activity will be the students joining in the performance of a corrobboree. A note has been sent home.

Playgrounds after school

It is great to see students and families enjoy the wonderful facilities and playgrounds straight after school. However, I need all of the community to please support this practice in the following way. If students are to use the playground after school, their parent must be actively supervising their child from right next to the playground. I appreciate everyone’s support with this.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Our student attendance average is just over 91% - we still think we can obtain 95% Every day counts

Parents are reminded of the importance of sending children to school every day. Being at school every day is important, if with one day absent each week quickly adding up to two months of missed lessons in a year.

Unless your child is ill, it is expected that your child will be at school learning every day of the school year.

More information on the importance of regular school attendance is available via the link below. The videos associated with this link highlight issues often faced by parents and dispel some myths about absences form school and are worth a look.

By sending your child to school every day we are together developing good habits for success at primary school and beyond. When parents do not support developing a solid routine of attending school every day issues of truancy and poor work habits can emerge.

If you have any concerns regarding your child’s attendance, please do not hesitate to contact the school for support.

This week’s rule of the week is – Be Safe. Evans Street Upgrade – Be Safe and us the traffic lights correctly when crossing any road.
