MSS School Cross Country – P&C Fundraiser Fun Run
I was delighted with our student’s effort and participation on our new cross-country course on Monday. What a challenging and exciting event it proved to be!
There was running, jumping over mats, splashing through water jumps, crawling through tunnels and under scramble nets, up a mountain of woodchip, a scramble over the fence, a zig zagging run, a lap of the moon and a beach hill to finish. Exhausted runners with smiling, satisfied finishers.
Huge congratulations to all participants and many thanks to the large number of parents who supported the runners across the morning. All runners received an ice block on Tuesday as part of the P&C’s fundraising promotion and thank you to the students who have already returned their sponsorship forms and money. Could all parents please promptly return the sponsorship forms and money to the School Office so that the P&C can finalise the ordering of the prizes.
Our highly successful runners were:
Bonnie, Darcy, Alexis-Jayde, Seth, Lachlan and Beau
Sharnay, Kimberley, Penny, Ryder, Rowan and Kyran

Semester 1 Report Cards
More and more schools are now sending home student reports via email and this semester we are planning to also send out all of our student report cards via emailed to parents / caregivers on the first Monday of the holidays. We will not be printing and manually sending home report cards.
Prep Enrolments 2017
This does require all parents to ensure we have the correct email for you to receive your child’s report. We will also be sending this note home in a hard copy to ensure all families are aware.
Again this year we are offering many opportunities for families with Prep aged children to be involved in a comprehensive Prep Transition program for 2017.
Open days offer opportunities for children to play and familiarise themselves with school, whilst Information Sessions, Coffee mornings & Facebook posts will provide parents with details about our programs and the wonderful atmosphere in our small school setting.
With Maroochydore SS not having a catchment area, I encourage any families with Prep aged children to contact our school for more details.
MSS School Instrumental Band
Our Instrumental Band is participating in Fanfare 2016 on Monday at Chancellor SC. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to participate on the big stage for the first time. Parents are welcome to attend and a reminder to please advise the School Office if you wish to come on the bus.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Maroochydore State School has again registered all our students for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is a fun challenge, which aims to boost literacy skills by encouraging students to read widely for pleasure and learning. The reading period for 2016 is from 16th May to 26th August.
Most classes will complete their reading records at school. Some students will complete their reading records at home and will need to return them to school by Friday 2 September. Please check with your classroom teacher if you are unsure which way your child is recording their books.
Prep to Year 2 students are challenged to read or experience 20 books, Year 3 and Year 4 to read 20 books, and Year 5 and Year 6 to read 15 books.
Every student who completes the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier. These will be presented in November. For more information please visit:

Sticks and Stones
Last week, the whole school watched a theatre performance by Brainstorm Productions called Sticks and Stones. It was performed in-the-round by two actors who were also good jugglers and rappers. The performance told the story of a boy who learned how to be kind to others while standing up for himself.
The message was about getting along, staying safe and being a good friend.
Maroochydore State School has a strong anti-bullying stance and funded this visit as part of our ongoing positive behaviour focus.
Breakfast Club
A great way to start Thursday morning at Maroochydore SS! A piece of toast and a cup of milo. Thank you Chappy Sam for organising the food and Mr Cullen for helping out.
Evans Street Upgrade
The existing pedestrian crossing, on the western side of the Evans St/Maroochydore Rd intersection shall be temporarily closed from Tuesday May 31.
Pedestrians needing to cross Maroochydore Rd from Evans St will be directed to the overhead pedestrian crossing near Maroochydore State School or to the signalised pedestrian crossing near Lincraft to the west.
