Parent and Teacher Interviews
It has been wonderful to see many parents visiting their child’s classroom over the last week for the beginning of the year parent and teacher interviews. In the interview teachers are showing evidence of your child’s work and discussing learning goals for the rest of the term. This gives you as the parent valuable information on your child’s progress and also is a good indication of the work being done at school for your child to further improve.
There is a huge amount of evidence that shows this is a valuable and productive partnership as both teachers and parents are supporting the child working towards a defined goal. If you haven’t met with your class teacher please call the school on 5475 1555 to arrange a time.
Year 6 Maths Day of Excellence Challenge Teams
Three cheers to the students in Year 6 who participated in the Maroochydore State High School Maths Day of Excellence last week. Our best ever result with 7 of our students achieving a top three placing.
Congratulations to Hope, Zoe, Zhianne, Malachi, William, Ilijah, Sam, Enzo, Corri and Bryce.
Student Welfare and Learning
We’ve noticed this year that a number of students are very tired, particularly on a Monday. They have indicated quite a late bedtime on a Sunday night and even on weekday nights.
Traditionally Monday has been a very positive learning day and we would hate to see good learning opportunities missed by a student due to tiredness caused by going to bed late.
Growing bodies need a well-established sleep routine and a good healthy breakfast to achieve optimal learning opportunities.
Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be a Learner
Our 4 school rules. Shared on Parade, reinforced in the classroom and in the playground.
Voluntary School Contributions
Thank you to the many parents who have already paid the $50 Voluntary School Contribution. This does support our purchase of extra resources to support the teaching and learning activities across the school and enhances what we offer to your children.
Student Absences
Attendance target -95%. Last week our attendance was 93.4%
Last week a number of classes also have shown there was no unexplained absences! Thank you to parents for ensuring the school is notified with a reason for any student absence.
If your child is absent from school are parents are asked to contact the Office and let us know of their absence. Our School Office contact number is 5475 1555. Please keep this number handy.
The Student Absence button on the website is not forwarding your notification to us at the moment. Our School IT person is looking into this issue. Please do not use this feature at the moment and call the school as described above to notify of your child’s absence.
Student Health Plans
Did our school nurse send to you important forms around the management of your child’s condition at school? These do need to be updated by you and your doctor and returned to school by Friday March 4.
P&C News
Annual General Meeting – Wednesday March 9 6pm in the School Staffroom
All parents are welcome to attend and join in with the activities of the P&C.
A slightly belated welcome back to all our families at Maroochydore State School from the P&C! Just two quick things to start the year…
Keep an eye out for the new tuckshop menu, it started on Friday the 26th Feb. There will also be meal deals and specials that change weekly; they will be displayed at the tuckshop and on the facebook page.
Secondly - the P&C Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday the 9th March at 6pm in the administration building. Everyone is welcome, and we would love to see some new faces there. We will be discussing what our priorities are for the next twelve months, and how the P&C can best support the school – as you may know, any money we raise gets put back into the school to try and get some ‘extras’ that government funding doesn’t stretch to! The more parents that come along to the meetings, the better idea we have of what the school families feel is important, which helps us decide on our priorities. Thanks, Beth
Tuckshop News
Welcome to all our families at Maroochydore State School. As it is the start of a new school year a new volunteer roster needs to be compiled for the tuckshop. The tuckshop relies heavily on volunteers, and they are necessary to ensure the tuckshop service continues. Any assistance you can give is very much appreciated, whether it be an hour or two once a month or a more regular shift.
Tuckshop duties are fairly easy, and most are things we do regularly at home - eg food preparation and baking. But they are a lot more fun when done in the company of other volunteers and chatting! Not only is volunteering in the tuckshop helpful to the school, but it is also a great way to meet new people and familiarise yourself with the school and the staff. And, most importantly, your child will LOVE to see you there!
If you are interested in helping or have any questions, see Bronny at the tuckshop on Fridays, or contact the P&C and we can pass on your details maroochydorestatepc@gmail.com
Donation of goods is also very welcome eg self-raising flour, fresh or tinned fruit (see Bronny if you want some other ideas of what is currently needed!)
We look forward to seeing you in 2016!
Bookclub
Welcome to our School Book Club.
Our school is participating in the Scholastic Book Club this year. Once a term, you will receive two club catalogues with a different selection of book offered.
You will find award winning books as well as old and new favourites. The books span a wide range of children’s interests and reading levels. Some books are as little as $2.
Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our school, however there is never any obligation to order.
It is easy to order. Look over the catalogue with your child, select the books you want and log onto the scholastic website to place your order. Here’s how:
Log-on to www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download their iPhone and iPad app from the App Store or get it on Google Play for Android.
- For a quick start, just click on ORDER in the top menu or REGISTER first to save your details for next time.
- Select your school and your child’s class.
- Add your child’s first name and last initial (so the school knows who the book is for).
- Enter the item number from the Book Club catalogue.
- You can order for multiple children at once if they attend the same school.
- All orders are linked directly to the school for submission to Scholastic. Books will still be delivered to your child’s classroom if you order by the closing date.
- There’s no need to return paper order forms or payment receipt details to your school!
This first order is due on the 7th March.
