Instrumental Music - Great News!
On Sunday, the Maroochydore SS Concert Band joined with the Concert Bands from Kuluin SS and Bli Bli SS to perform at Music Fest.
After just one rehearsal day together, the Combined Schools Band performed three pieces to a very high standard and participated in a workshop with adjudicator Dr Rachel Howley.
The group made a fantastic sound on stage and it was so exciting to have the experience of playing in a large ensemble, alongside making new music friends from different schools. AND the Combined Schools Band was awarded a GOLD for their performance!
What wonderful news and congratulations to all Matilda, Ella, Archie, Franki, Mack, Ethan and Jai.
Update on social media age restrictions
From mid-December, Australian children under 16 will not be allowed to hold accounts on certain social media platforms. The age restrictions are likely to apply to Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube, among other platforms. Online gaming and standalone messaging apps are among a number of types of services that will not be included.
Holding and being logged into an account increases the likelihood that under-16s will be exposed to pressures and risks that can be hard to deal with. For example, the pressure to constantly respond to notifications and alerts, and the risk of exposure to content that can harm their wellbeing. Delaying account access until 16 will give young people more time to build digital literacy, critical reasoning, social and emotional skills and resilience.
It’s important that we support under-16s by talking openly about the age restrictions, finding out how they currently use social media and how they may be impacted by the law.
These frequently asked questions will be added to and updated throughout 2025.

Our school is participating in Day for Daniel on Friday 31 October.
Students are encouraged to wear red to raise awareness for child safety.
It’s important to educate children about personal safety, help them identify unsafe situations, teach them to react and empower them to report abuse and seek help.
As part of Day for Daniel, our school will also participate in Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson. This year the lesson focuses on creating safer online and offline environments for children. Taylor McKeown will be connecting with our Year 4, 5 and 6 students on November 12, as part of Olympics Unleashed programme.
The students will learn from Taylor McKeown's Olympic journey how to build resilience, the importance of setting goals and how to find what you are passionate about.
Students will hear first hand from Taylor about how she overcame challenges to compete in swimming at the very highest level, and how some of these lessons can help students to be the best they can be – whether that’s in school, at home, on the sporting field.
